Catholic Education

"Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it."
                                                                                                                            Proverbs 22:6

Summer 2017

Dear Parishioner Families,

Our communities and world need leaders with a foundation in their faith and strong moral values. That's the
aim of Catholic education at St. Camillus Catholic Academy.

In a nurturing learning environment, based in Christ's teachings, students find a challenging academic program
and an enriching student experience. We invite all parish families to get to know more about our school, our
programs, and our dynamic community.

At St. Camillus Catholic Academy each child grows in meaningful ways, learning that they are part of
something much greater than themselves and feeling empowered to reach for their highest potential.
When our students go on to high school, they not only succeed academically, they also are viewed as
compassionate, intellectually strong, faith-filled leaders.

We recognize that the cost of choosing a Catholic education for your children may be a barrier to realizing all
the benefits. Our parish is committed to working with all interested families to make tuition at St. Camillus
Catholic Academy financially possible. Each year, we assist many of our parish families with need based
scholarship support. Father Ahlemeyer can be reached at 718.634.8229 to discuss the scholarship process.

Expand your experience with St. Camillus Catholic Academy by taking a tour and learning what we offer.
Meet the dedicated faculty and familiarize yourself with the challenging academic programs and the learning
experiences for the whole child.

To arrange a personal tour of the Academy, please contact Principal Sheila Smith Gonzalez at 718.634.5260.
We look forward to welcoming you to our campus and getting to know your family better. In the meantime,
please learn more about the St. Camillus Catholic Academy experience at

                                               Sincerely Yours in Christ,

Rev . Richard J. Ahlemeyer                         Principal Sheila Smith Gonzalez

June 16, 2017

Love, respect, dedication, loyalty and faith are just a few of the values that are used to describe a very
memorable and missed member of our Saint Camillus family, Msgr. William Burke. For decades, Msgr. Burke
dedicated his life to his strong Catholic faith. As a parish priest, he gave his heart and soul to his work. The
Rockaway Peninsula was extremely blessed when he was transferred to Saint Francis De Sales Parish in 1945
and even more blessed when he joined the Saint Camillus Parish in 1951. It was during this year, that Msgr.
Burke began the well-known and loved Saint Camillus Marching Band.

As director of the band, Msgr. Burke not only instilled in each member a love of music but also a drive
towards becoming productive and hardworking members of the community. From practices to performance,
Msgr. Burke required each of his band members to work hard and be respectful of each other. Some would
say he was a 'tough cookie' but everyone who joined the band knew that he would do anything to help them.
Even after Msgr. Burke left Saint Camillus to take another assignment in the Diocese, he remained the director
of the band. He knew that he had started something that made a huge impact on many lives. His love for his
band and the Rockaway community was very clear to everyone who knew him and so was the band's and
community's love for him. After his death, members ofthe band continued his legacy by keeping the Saint
Camillus Band going in his honor. The love, dedication and loyalty that he demonstrated to the youth of our
parish lived on thanks to the life lessons and values he taught to so many of his band members.

It is with those values in mind that Saint Camillus Catholic Academy is proud to announce the
"Monsignor William Burke Memorial Fund". This Memorial Fund will be used to offer a scholarship to a
current student who not only demonstrates a love of music but also demonstrates the values of love, respect,
dedication, loyalty and faith that Msgr. Burke encompassed. Msgr. Burke was an advocate for Catholic
education. The Memorial will also honor his name by assisting families who desire Catholic education and may
not be able to financially afford the costs.

We ask that you support our scholarship campaign by purchasing 50/50 raffle tickets. pdf CLICK HERE FOR RAFFLE TICKET (409 KB)
